Assignments for the 1st Week of the 1st Quarter

Tuesday: Unfortunately, Mr. Waller will not be present for the first class meeting. Ms. Williams will be your substitute teacher, and she will hand out your syllabi and textbooks and will lead you through the textbook sign-out procedure. Also, Ms. Williams will review the fire drill procedures with you. Once that is complete, News Editor Natalie Pita will work with you on developing a list of interview questions fof Mr. Waller on Thursday. Then Natalie will tell you what journalism really is all about. :). For homework,
  1. Sign the last page of the syllabus and have your parents sign it, too.
  2. Email your name and preferred email address to Mr. Waller at hwaller@gsgis.k12.va.us.
  3. Bring in a news article from an actual newspaper (not one from on-line) and be prepared to summarize it verbally.
Thursday: View 50 Fun Things to Do... PowerPoint. Make index cards and work folders. Check email addresses. Hand in signed syllabi. View and discuss Rules for Deportment PowerPoint. View Assignments Blog and other web resources. Interview Mr. Waller. Share and discuss articles. Read and discuss news articles in the Richmond Times-Dispatch. For homework,
  1. Post on the blog an idea for a news article about the Governor's School. This should be a 1-3 paragraph summary of what the article might address. No article ideas may be repeated.
  2. Read a newspaper over the weekend.
