Assignments for the 10th Week of the 2nd Quarter

Tuesday: Go over semester's assignments. Work on page layout.

Wednesday: (Unfortunately, Mr. Waller will be absent.) Go to Computer Lab 121 and look up the following web resources on the Watergate Scandal:
Thursday: Exam Day--watch "All the President's Men" in class and discuss.

Assignments for the 9th Week of the 2nd Quarter

Tuesday: Preview weekly calendar. Discuss visit by Valley Haggard. Hand-in study guide/vocabulary exercise for Chapter 15: "Publication Design" and go over the answers. Share and receive critique on the News-In-Brief article topics posted on the English Forums. Spend time in class reading and discussing the RichmondTimes-Dispatch. For homework,
  1. Study for quiz on Chapter 15.
  2. Complete your news-in-brief and post it on the bulletin board. The article should have a direct lead, be 2-3 paragraphs long, and be no more than 100 words.
  3. Continue reading about Watergate here.
Thursday: Take quiz on Chapter 15: "Publication Design." Share and receive critique on the News-In-Brief articles posted on the English Forums. Spend time in class reading and discussing the RichmondTimes-Dispatch.

Assignments for the 8th Week of the 2nd Quarter

Thursday: Preview weekly calendar. Hand-in study guide/vocabulary exercise for Chapter 14: "Photojournalism" and go over the answers. Spend time in class reading and discussing the RichmondTimes-Dispatch. For homework,
  1. Study for quiz on Chapter 14.
  2. Begin looking for a new News-In-Brief topic. (This will be due next Tuesday, but you may begin the thread anytime--the first person to post the topic "gets" the topic.)
  3. Prepare for visit by Valley Haggard by reading "The Journal Keeper" from Style Weekly here. Prepare at least two questions for Ms. Haggard.
Friday: Take quiz on Chapter 14: "Photojournalism." Listen to presentation by Valley Haggard.
  1. Complete study guide/vocabulary exercise for Chapter 15: Publication Design.
  2. Finalize your News-In-Brief article topic and post it on the bulletin board. Explain the who, what, where, when, why, and how of the article. (List what you know and what you need to find out.)
  3. Start reading about Watergate here.

Tuesday: Preview weekly calendar. Talk about all of the interesting newspaper articles you read over break. Spend time in class reading and discussing the RichmondTimes-Dispatch. For homework,
  1. Study for quiz on Chapter 13.
  2. Re-post your revised News-In-Brief article (if you haven't already).
Thursday: Take quiz on Chapter 13: "Sportswriting." Listen to presentation from Isshin Teshima '07, editor and writer for the Flat Hat newspaper from William & Mary.
  1. Prepare for a class visit by Edwin Slipek by familiarizing yourself with his articles for Style Weekly at www.styleweekly.com. Prepare at least two questions for Mr. Slipek.
Friday: Presentation by Edwin Slipek, Editor at Style Weekly.
  1. Complete study guide/vocabulary exercise for Chapter 14: Photojournalism.
