Assignments for the 9th Week of the 1st Quarter

Tuesday: Preview weekly calendar. Spend time in class reading and discussing The Richmond Times-Dispatch. Share and receive critique on the News-In-Brief articles posted on the English Forums. Begin reading Chapter 7: "The Right Way to Quote" in-class. For homework,
  1. Finish reading Chapter 7 and complete study guide/vocabulary exercise.
  2. Re-post your revised News-In-Brief article.
  3. Begin looking for a new News-In-Brief topic. (This will be due next Tuesday, but you may begin the thread anytime--the first person to post the topic "gets" the topic.)
Thursday: Spend time in class reading and discussing The Richmond Times-Dispatch. Hand-in study guide/vocabulary exercise for Chapter 7: "The Right Way to Quote" and go over the answers. Discuss your News-In-Brief article ideas and where you would go to research them.

  1. Finish reading Chapter 5 and complete study guide/vocabulary exercise.
  2. Begin researching your News-In-Brief article.
Thursday: Spend time in class reading and discussing The Richmond Times-Dispatch. Hand-in study guide/vocabulary exercise for Chapter 5: "Interviewing" and go over the answers. Discuss your progress in researching your News-In-Brief article.
  1. Study for quiz on Chapter 5.
  2. Continue researching your News-In-Brief article.
Friday: Take quiz on Chapter 5: "Interviewing." Read and discuss The Richmond Times-Dispatch.
  1. Read a newspaper this weekend.
  2. Complete your News-In-Brief article and post it on the bulletin board. The article should have a direct lead, be 2-3 paragraphs long, and be no more than 100 words.
