Assignments for the 6th Week of the 2nd Quarter

Tuesday: Preview weekly calendar. Spend time in class reading and discussing The Richmond Times-Dispatch. Share news ideas posted on the English Forum. Read "Hack Heaven" by Stephen Glass and discuss what makes a great news article. Begin watching "Shattered Glass" in class. For homework,
  1. Begin researching your News-In-Brief article.
Thursday: Finish watching "Shattered Glass" and discuss the film. Discuss your progress in researching your News-In-Brief article.
  1. Continue researching your News-In-Brief article.
Friday: Read and discuss The Richmond Times-Dispatch.
  1. Have a great Winter Holiday!
  2. Complete your News-In-Brief article and post it on the bulletin board. The article should have a direct lead, be 2-3 paragraphs long, and be no more than 100 words.

Assignments for the 5th Week of the 2nd Quarter

Tuesday: Preview weekly calendar. Spend time in class reading and discussing The Richmond Times-Dispatch. Share and receive critique on the News-In-Brief articles posted on the English Forums. Begin reading Chapter 12: "Columns and Reviews" in-class. For homework,
  1. Finish reading Chapter 12 and complete study guide/vocabulary exercise.
  2. Re-post your revised News-In-Brief article.
  3. Begin looking for a new News-In-Brief topic. (This will be due next Tuesday, but you may begin the thread anytime--the first person to post the topic "gets" the topic.)
Thursday: Spend time in class reading and discussing The Richmond Times-Dispatch. Hand-in study guide/vocabulary exercise for Chapter 12: "Columns and Reviews" and go over the answers. Discuss your News-In-Brief article ideas and where you would go to research them.
  1. Study for quiz on Chapter 12.
  2. Continue looking for your News-In-Brief article topic.
Friday: Take quiz on Chapter 12: "Columns and Reviews." Read and discuss The Richmond Times-Dispatch.
  1. Read a newspaper this weekend.
  2. Finalize your News-In-Brief article topic and post it on the bulletin board. Explain the who, what, where, when, why, and how of the article. (List what you know and what you need to find out.)
